What is the best way to find out what Bethel Bakery has to offer?

Making an appointment at the bakery is the best way for you to see and sample what we have to offer.  Our appointments are 45 minutes long and are scheduled in the evenings and Saturdays.

What can I expect during an appointment at the bakery?

We begin the appointment with a cake tasting of our most popular combinations.  We then help you determine the flavor, cake size, and design that will compliment your wedding.  We provide you with a personalized worksheet based on your choices.  By the end of the appointment you can choose to place a $50 non-refundable deposit to secure your wedding date, make a finalized order or confirm your decision later.

How far in advance should I contact Bethel Bakery to order my wedding cake?

Usually most orders are finalized 3-4 months in advance but can be done prior to that if you prefer.  All orders must be finalized at least one month before with the remaining balance due two weeks prior to your wedding.

Looking at the different sizes of wedding cakes and their servings, I could have a guest count between sizes.  What do you suggest?

Naturally you will have ample servings if you go with the larger size cake, especially if you plan on serving it as dessert.  However, you can always be more cost effective and go with the smaller cake and order an additional undecorated birthday cake to extend the servings of your wedding cake.  This backup cake usually is the same batter as the wedding cake, serves 24 and will be cut and served when needed.

Can I have different batters in my wedding cake?

Certainly!  Each tier can have a different batter and filling combination.  We find however, that the majority of couples do choose one flavor for the entire cake, only because it eliminates guests not getting their flavor preference.

Do you offer rolled fondant cakes?

Because our trademark is our French Buttercream Icing, we do ice all of our cakes with our buttercream icing.  We have certain cake designs, such as Claire, Lady Di, Silk Symphony and Patricia, which use fondant draping/ribbons as a beautiful and unique decoration.  However, we do offer fondant-covered cakes.  Our fondant-covered wedding cakes are still iced with our buttercream but a very thin layer of fondant enrobes the cake to create a sleek, seamless look.  Because of the labor intensity of these cakes, they do incur an additional charge.

Can I bring in a picture of a wedding cake I saw in a magazine that I like?

Absolutely.  Some of our best designs were adapted from pictures couples gave us.  We will be glad to let you know to what extent we could replicate your request and an estimate of the additional cost for that particular design.  We keep up with the latest trends in cake design by attending annual conventions and take cake-focused classes that enhance our skill level.

What color is the icing that is used on the wedding cake?

Because butter is used in our French Buttercream Icing, it is not a stark white.  In fact, it is more ivory/candlelight color.  Some of our cake photos may give the appearance of bright white icing however, this is the result of the camera’s flash against the cake when the photograph was taken.

Do you have any suggestions where I can best place my cake at the reception?

Couples usually feel that the cake should be one of the focal points at the reception.  If your reception site gives you the option, a five-foot round table that is free standing, sometimes on the dance floor, can make it a center of attention.

What time do you deliver the cake?

The reception site often dictates this.  We call your reception site the week of the wedding and ask for a time frame for delivery.  Some sites are accessible for delivery almost all day – while others have more restricted time slots that we accommodate.  Normally wedding cakes will be delivered no later than one hour before your reception starts, but could be there significantly before that depending on the reception site’s availability and our schedule for that day.

How far do you deliver?

We offer delivery to over 100 different reception sites primarily within a 10-15 mile radius of the bakery.  Delivery charges range in price depending on time and distance from the bakery.  Please inquire to confirm delivery service to your wedding reception.  View our extensive list of places we have delivered to in the past.  The delivery charge is a great insurance policy to have piece of mind that delivery and set up are in professional hands.

When should I cut my cake?

Your reception site will usually tell you their procedure on cake cutting.  Many times couples will have their cake cutting ceremony immediately after they are announced at the reception.  Your reception site coordinator will guide you with this process.

What is the measurement of a serving of your wedding cake?

We suggest using your wedding cake as a dessert and have found our serving an adequate size after a wedding meal.  The dimension of this serving, whether from a round or square wedding cake, is 4”h x 2”d x ¾” w.  Each reception site may cut the cake slightly different and may be a question for you to ask them.

I have seen wedding cakes displayed on round or square stands.  Do you have them available?

We have a few different options for displaying your cake.  The most popular are our silver cake stands that can be rented from the bakery.  We do have a limited quantity and it can be reserved when your date is confirmed with us.

Will you work with my florist?

Definitely.  Our delivery schedule is finalized by the Thursday afternoon prior to your wedding.  If it is noted on your order that your florist is providing flowers for your cake, we will call them with the cake delivery time.  If your florist needs cake information prior to delivery, please have them contact our wedding department.  We do suggest that if you are having fresh flowers accenting your cake, your florist is best suited to do this once the cake has arrived at the reception site.

What should I do with a figurine/cake topper I have and would like on my cake or cake table?

We suggest you bring it with you to the bakery when you come in to finalize the cake order.  The specific guidelines we have found to work best for the top of your cake are a maximum base width of 4 ½”, maximum height of 6” and maximum weight of 12oz.  Have your figurine/cake topper at the reception site, preferably on the cake table the day of the wedding and we will be glad to place it where you have decided it should be – on top if within our guidelines or on the table beside the cake.

My bridesmaids are wearing navy blue.  Would you recommend navy blue icing on my wedding cake?

Intense colors can be put on the cake, but sparingly.  We do tip the roses in those colors, so the color doesn’t overwhelm the cake.  A caution to the couple, however, dark colors (because of their high saturation of food coloring) can temporarily stain your teeth or even stain your clothing.  Also remember, when your pictures are take of the cake, it’s a photo with the couple only and what color the attendants are wearing usually is not significant.
